Patches of discoloration or unsightly marks on the skin, can end up giving several sleepless nights to the sufferer. Despite the availability of a wide variety of treatment options, an uneven skin tone often leads to the development of inferiority complex, which can have an adverse impact on one’s confidence levels. An uneven skin tone usually refers to a condition where a section or patch of skin is remarkably darker or lighter than the adjoining areas.

1. Sandalwood:

With its amazing fragrance and properties, sandalwood has always been a well-guarded secret to clear even toned skin, right from the ancient times. Sandalwood clears sun tan and pigmentation marks to reveal beautiful, glowing skin. Prepare a paste using two teaspoons of sandalwood powder along with one tablespoon of milk and a few drops of rose water.

2. Coconut Oil:

It has antioxidants that remove free radicals that damage the skin. The oil rejuvenates, hydrates and moisturises your skin and prevents sagging.

1. Massage with the oil in upward circular motions on your skin for 5-10 minutes.
2. Leave it overnight.
3. Use regularly for best results.

3. Olive Oil:

It contains Vitamin E and A that gives a radiant glow to your skin and protects it from sun damage. Antioxidants in olive oil help with skin tightening.
Massage on your skin in an upward or circular motion for a few minutes.

4. Egg White & Honey Mask:

Eggs are rich in albumin, an excellent remedy for sagging. Honey has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties. The mask is one of the most effective skin tightening home remedies for the face.

1. Separate the egg white from the yolk.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of honey in the egg white and mix well.
3. Apply it on the face or other areas and leave for 15-20 minutes.
4. Wash with lukewarm water.
5. Apply this mask once a week for better results.

5. Oats (Skin Types-All):

Oats work as an efficient anti-tanning agent and helps lighten the skin tone. They are amazing exfoliators.
Oats are also rich in zinc which is important for fighting off pimples. Oats help to absorb the excess oil on the skin and are an essential part of acne treatments.
They also help to treat dry and itchy skin as beta-glucans present in them help to moisturize the skin.

6. Almonds (Skin Type-All):

Almonds are rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants. Regular massage with almond oil keeps our skin glowing and healthy. It also prevents fine lines and wrinkles.
It moisturizes our skin and keeps it acne-free. It also helps in reducing stretch marks and dark circles.

7. Turmeric:

Due to its powerful healing nature, turmeric continues to be one of the most trusted home remedies for getting rid of uneven skin tone. Turmeric based face-packs and creams are wonderful shortcuts to clear skin complexion naturally. Mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and fresh milk cream, along with one & a half teaspoon of gram flour. Apply this all over your facial skin, neck and hands. Allow it to dry for about 20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.

8. Papaya:

The rich vitamin A content and natural bleaching properties of papaya, helps you to get rid of uneven skin tone in no time. Mash a portion of ripe papaya and mix it with two teaspoons of milk. Add some freshly squeezed juice of a lemon. Apply on face and leave it on for 10-minutes before washing off. Repeating this once or twice every week would leave your skin squeaky clean, and remove traces of dark spots and blemishes.

9. Lemon or lime:

 Squeeze out some fresh lemon juice and dilute it with water or honey. Apply the mixture to your neck and face. Leave it on for 5–10 minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Then rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this every other day.
 Take 2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice in a bowl and lightly mix in the same amount of sugar, salt, or yogurt such that they don’t dissolve completely. Gently massage this scrub on your face and neck in circular motions for a few minutes. Wait for about 10 minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

10. Aloe Vera:

It contains malic acid and is a natural moisturiser that helps improve skin elasticity. It contains various phytochemicals to ensure the optimal health of your skin.
How to apply aloe vera gel:
• Cut open aloe vera leaves and scoop out the gel.
• Apply it directly.
• Wash with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.
How to make aloe vera mask:
1. Take 2-3 spoons of aloe vera gel in a bowl and mix it with 1 spoon of honey and mayonnaise.
2. Apply the mask to your face.
3. Leave it for 20-25 minutes and wash afterwards with water.

11. Witch hazel:

Witch hazel contains gallic acid, which works as an astringent (13) to minimize pores and dry out whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. (14) It also removes excess sebum and dirt from the skin.
1. Apply witch hazel to your washed face and neck with a cotton ball.
2. Leave it on for 10 minutes.
3. Rinse it off.

12. Exercise regularly:

Take out at least 45 minutes from your daily schedule for exercise. A regular dose of physical activity helps relieve stress and makes your heart pump more blood throughout the body. Less stress means lower cortisol levels, which lead to healthier skin.

13. Orange Juice (Skin Type- All):

Oranges are known to be brimming with Vitamin C and can help in detoxification. A glassful of orange juice daily helps to clean the complexion and rejuvenate the skin in no time. Thanks to its Vitamin C and citric acid content, orange also helps to control acne and gives firmness to the skin.

14. Keep your skin clean:

Keep your skin clean by washing it with a medicated facial wash and water twice a day, especially after sweating or returning from a polluted environment.
