Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein present in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. Hemoglobin level in body is expressed as grams of hemoglobin per 100 milliliters (or 1 deciliter) of whole blood.
Normal Hemoglobin levels in the blood are:
 14 to 18 g/dl for adult men
 12 to 16 g/dl for adult women
