Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors which do not spread.
Cancer starts when a cell is somehow altered so that it multiplies out of control. A tumor is a mass composed of a cluster of such abnormal cells.
Tumors do not spread to other parts of the body and do not create new tumors.
Cancer therapy is personalised, which is why treatments can vary.
The choice of treatment is influenced by the location of the tumour distribution, cell type and the patient’s overall condition as well as possible other illnesses.
